Coordinator:  James Coogan
Jim Coogan has been teaching Cape Cod History at the Academy for over twenty years. He’s actually lived a lot of it. Raised in Brewster, Jim has been on the Cape for more than 75 years. Few people are as knowledgeable about Cape Cod’s history as he is. A retired high school history teacher and author of 14 books, Jim offers a fun course for newcomers as well as longtime residents of the “Narrow Land.” With slides and handouts, students in the class will trace the course of the Cape’s history from the earliest settlement by indigenous people, to the current status of the Cape as one of the most well-known resort communities in America. From Pilgrims, and pirates, fisherman, and bootleggers, as well as Patriots, Presidents, and other prominent personalities, the course will explore in detail the place we love.

Here’s Jim telling us about his upcoming course “Cape Cod History.”
