Nobody Lives Forever: The Warner Brothers Gangster Films of the 1930’s.

This class will focus on several of the classic gangster movies that the Warner Brothers studio produced from 1930 until 1939. Many of the stars of these films will be familiar to movie fans: Humphrey Bogart, James Cagney, George Raft, to name a few. These films can be considered a precursor to the film noir movement.

Richard Slapsys is an emeritus fine arts librarian and adjunct to the English department at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. He has taught several film classes at both UMass Lowell and ALL. His areas of interest in film history are the Hollywood movies of the 1930’s and 1940’s.
