Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) is all about us. But what is it? Can we trust it? Is it a good thing? In this class you will learn a bit about the history of artificial intelligence, its current state, and projections about its future. We will cover such topics as large language models, machine learning, chatbots, generative AI, hallucinations and guardrails. We will use some of the new GAI tools such as Gemini and ChatGPT. Lastly, we will discuss what a future with GAI might look like, be it advanced robotics, self-driving cars, highly skilled digital assistants, or even self-aware systems. The coordinator will suggest readings, but there are no assignments for the course. Please send any questions you might have and the coordinator will try to answer them during the course.

Coordinator: Paul Coteus
Paul is a retired physicist and IBM Fellow. He is not an AI expert, but has followed its evolution. He finds the subject fascinating and has spent a good bit of time educating himself on recent developments in order to offer this course. He hopes you find the course interesting!
