This course is an extension of the existing Great Books program, using the same model and format but applied to different course material. In this reading and discussions forum, we will focus on one short story per week. The coordinator will pose thought-provoking questions to kick off the discussions. Active participation is encouraged, and members are fully expected to engage with one another in class discussions. The coordinator will guide the class in order to gain insights into the stories, their authors and styles of writing. Course materials will be provided from The Best American Short Stories of the Century, edited by John Updike. Additional stories will be discussed in the second six-week session of this course.
