This course will discuss six wonderful but unjustly neglected female composers from the eighteenth, nineteenth and early twentieth centuries: Marianna Martines, Louise Farrenc, Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel, Clara Wieck Schumann, Amy Beach, and Florence Price. We will examine their lives, view videos of some of their works, and consider why they have been overlooked.
Coordinator: Robert Santulli
