ALL1517-C First 6 Weeks Wednesday 1:30-2:50 Start Date 16-Sep
Grossman 106 Limit 20
In 2020, there was a surge of interest in and support for racial justice issues in the US. Progress was made in recognizing the importance of diversity, equity and belonging initiatives in the private and public sectors and it seemed we were moving toward greater acceptance of those ideals. But historically, when gains are made toward equal rights for people who have been marginalized, there is often a backlash and regression. Now, more than ever, it is important for all of us to find ways to support our neighbors of color who once again find themselves targeted because of their race or culture. The coordinator will provide articles and graphics.
Coordinator: Karen Boujoukos
Following the 2020 murder of George Floyd, Karen felt an urgent need to understand more about race in the US and began to read extensively about historic and contemporary racial justice issues. She is a member and chairperson of the MLK Action Team (a subcommittee of Nauset Interfaith Association). Karen is also a member of the Cape Cod chapter of NAACP and tries to immerse herself in as many learning activities and events on the Cape as possible. Last year, she was presented with the Barnstable County Human Rights Advisory Commission’s Cornerstone Award for her racial justice work.
