This class will take a look at the early horror film cycle that was produced at Universal studios from 1931 to the mid and late 1940’s. Beginning with the creation of the horror film in the silent era, we will then visit the early talkies starring Dracula, Frankenstein, the Wolf Man and the Mummy. Universal studios teamed Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff with a host of other wonderful character actors to create these legendary and classic films that still entertain and maybe scare people to this day.

Richard Slapsys is an emeritus Fine Arts Librarian/teacher at the University of Massachusetts Lowell and has previously taught film courses at UMass and ALL. Film Noir and Horror are his favorite genres.
