In 1939, the British Ministry of Information developed the “Keep Calm and Carry On” poster as a specific response to the expected rapid breakdown of society. Rooted in British stoicism, the poster advocated a sense of sober restraint and the control of one’s reactions when things feel chaotic. In 2026, society is, once again, experiencing rapid unexpected change with technology and the chaos of global reframing. This course explores how individuals and society cope—from screen time and gaming to exercise, meditation, positive psychology and a variety of approaches to self-management and self-awareness. Topics will be shaped by class interest, covering the general themes of consciousness, artificial intelligence, health and wellness, individual and group dynamics, and personal values. Active class participation will contribute to thoughtful discussions. A list of resources will be provided for further exploration.
